Magic Kingdom Overview

General Magic Kingdom Logo

Magic Kingdom opened Oct. 1, 1971 and was the first park in Disney World. Magic Kingdom is the icon in most people's minds for Disney World. The park is 107 acres in size and encompases seven lands: Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Mickey's Toontown Fair and Tomorrowland; all centred around the famous Disney landmark, Cinderella's Castle.

It is known that you can never experience the true magic of Disney until you step foot into the Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom contains some of the best entertainment to be found Disney World: Dreams Come True Parade, Wishes Nightime Firework Spectacular and Spectromagic Parade, none of these are to be missed!

How to get to the Magic Kingdom

There are many ways to get to the Magic Kingdom and the options will depend upon where you are coming from. If you are staying outside Disney World then you will have to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center (Magic Kingdom's car park). The Transportation and Ticket Center is not next to Magic Kingdom it is over the Seven Seas Lagoon. As you approach Magic Kingdom along World Drive, you will come across a Toll Plaza where you can by a car park ticket. Once you have purchased your ticket follow the signs and you will come across the car park where a cast member will show you where to park.

WDW4Brits Tip

Make sure you note down where you park your car because you'll be amazed how hard it is to find your car again after a day in the parks! - Take a photo if needed!

Once parked walk to the end of the car park (follow everyone else!) and catch the tram which will take you to the TTC (Transportation and Ticket Center). Here you have the chance to buy tickets if you haven't already got them, if you have got tickets then go straight past the kiosks. Once you are at the TTC you have two choices of how to get to Magic Kingdom: either take the monorail or the ferry. The monorail is slightly quicker but going on the ferry is a scenic ride straight across Seven Seas Lagoon. For the monorail go straight on and follow the signs for the "express" monorail ("express" because it doesn't stop at resorts); for the ferry follow the signs.
If you are staying at a Disney Resort the transport options will vary according to the resort location.

Main Attractions

  • Walt Disney World Railroad - A steam train ride around the outside of the park
  • Splash Mountain - A log flume ride with one of the world's longest drops!
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - A runaway train ride around the mines
  • Space Mountin - Climb abord your mini space ship for a fast indoor ride

These are some of the 45 attractions at Magic Kingdom, please go through the menu above to see the rest.

Entertainment

Magic Kingdom offers some of the best entertainment Disney World has. It has many shows, parades and fireworks displays.

WDW4Brits Tip

Pick up an entertainment guide as you enter the park (they are located in the tunnels under the train station along with the maps) to see the times of the shows

The main parade is called "Share a Dream Come True" it is shown daily around 3:30pm and is exclusive to the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration happening in 2008. There is another parade which is shown at night but is not always on. At night Disney shows their flagship fireworks show "Wishes" which is amazing, once you have seen it bonfire night will never seem the same again! Please select an item from the menu above to read more about the parades and fireworks.

Dining

Magic Kingdom offers a wide range of dining options from quick service to full table service. Dining at Cinderella's Castle is a truly amazing experience but make sure you book in advance!

Shopping

There are many shops in the park. Shops are down either side of Main Street USA providing lots oportunity to splash the cash! The shops are quietist as the park opens because everyone rushes to the rides, so if you are willing to compromise the rides the shops can be empty otherwise shop after a day on the rides.
